Cocaine Overdose: Fatal drug overdoses in US increase for 11th consecutive year – Los Angeles Times

Cloudless Bakersfield Sheds Light on Personal Injury Risks

Bakersfield was one of the fastest growing cities in California for the last 30 years. Its population tripled to about 320,000 by 2009. While enjoying Bakersfield’s cloudless skies, the city’s residents are at risk for a variety of personal injuries apart from more common car accident injuries.

Bakersfield has a huge proportion of residents, both male and female, working in the mining industry. In fact, according to city-data statistics, Bakersfield ranks both #1 and #2 on lists of cities with the largest numbers of men and women in these jobs, respectively.

Mining is relatively well-known for being dangerous work, and it is no surprise to Bakersfield mining accident law firms that unfortunate accidents happen on the job all the time. In November of 2009, deputies of the Ridgecrest Substation went on search for 30-year-old female that had fallen into a mine shaft. The Indian Wells Mine Rescue Team and Kern County Fire worked together to reach the woman. She had fallen approximately 100 feet down a vertical shaft and was found dead. This accident is a reminder that mining company owners must be held accountable for ensuring safe work spaces for employees.
