No. There were traces of cocaine in Coke when it was first made as a medicine. It has not been an ingredient for many years.

Use-ta be.

When pharmacists sold it, it had cocaine for medicinal purposes.

Glad they dropped that – enough drug probs today! Drugs are the “cash crop” of Al-Queda’s income.

I would venture to say that sugar and/or corn syrup can be just as addictive, if not as dangerous.

When coke first rolled off store shelves it is said that it contained a form of cocaine… In today’s society the reason it is so addicting is the Caffeine…

It is true that Coca Cola did have traces of cocaine in it when it first was being produced. But it wasn’t enough to be considered addictive. Since then they have changed teh formula. main reason people are addicted to coke is the high caffeine levels it has. Coke has more caffeine than most other brands of cola.

Coca Cola is also the 2nd most known word in the world. it is said that everyone in the world knows what Coca Cola means!

The original Coca-Cola did contain traces of cocaine. But, that was back when cocaine was used like a vitamin or mood enhancer and it was not illegal.

The Coke of today is just basically water, sugar, caffeine, carmel coloring and lots of additives that I can’t even pronounce.

Back in the early 1900s, Coca-cola did have a small amount of cocaine in it. This was used more as a cough syrup than a drink. (It was what put the Coca in Coca-cola.)

They don’t do this anymore however. The use of Cocaine is illegal.

long time ago cocaine was in the mix. Thank God it isn’t any more. The reason so many people are addicted is that it taste great! Way better than Pepsi.

Coca-Cola did use cocaine in their soft drink. This, however, became problematic when people realized the harmful effects of the practice. The company no longer uses -any- cocaine in their soda.

Those who are “addicted” to Coca-Cola most likely fall in one of two categories: they are either very fond of the soda but would not experience typical drug withdrawal symptoms if denied their “addiction”; or, alternately, they could be addicted to the caffiene (caffiene addiction isn’t all that uncommon).

Hey this is what i found out:

Coca Cola was invented by Dr. John S. Pemberton in 1886. It was originally formulated with extracts of coca leaves and kola nuts. That’s where the name comes from.

The first Coca-Cola was sold on May 8, 1886 at a soda fountain in Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta, either by Pemberton himself, or by clerk Willis Venable.

John Styth Pemberton, the Atlanta pharmacist who created Coca-Cola, sold a 2/3 interest in his company in 1887 for $283.29. Asa G. Candler another Atlanta pharmacist later bought the formula for $2,300, and when he in turn sold the company in 1919, it was worth $25 million.

Coca-Cola was first bottled in in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1894 by August Biedenharn, but was this bottling was only local in scope. Several years later in 1899, Benjamin Thomas and Joseph Whitehead, two Chattanooga lawyers, obtained rights to bottle Coca Cola in most of the U.S., except for Mississippi, New England and certain areas in Texas.

The site where Coca Cola was first bottled in Mississippi is now the Biedenharn Candy Company Museum.

The first 12 oz aluminum can was introduced by Royal Crown Cola in 1964. It wasn’t until 3 years later that Coke started using the aluminum can.

One 12 ounce can of Coca Cola contains approximately 45 mg. of caffeine.

A little about Coca-Cola and Coca leaves (cocaine)
Remember, Coca-Cola was originally marketed for its medicinal qualities.
This was a period of time when many patent medicines contained coca leaves or cocaine (an alkaloid extracted from the leaves), the most popular was ‘Vin Mariani’, invented by an Italian physician working in France, Angelo Mariani. Vin Mariani was widely imitated, and Pemberton at first produced an imitation of Vin Mariani before formulating his own concoction, Coca-Cola.
Coca-Cola never contained much cocaine – and the amount was quickly reduced to almost undetectable amounts after a few years, when cocaine’s negative properties started to become evident. (Estimates are the syrup contained 1 part in 50 million – that would be about 1/2 ounce in 25 million gallons of Coca Cola).
Since 1929 there has been no cocaine in Coca Cola. The leaves were still used for flavor, but the alkaloids were completely removed.

That’s where the name “coca-cola” comes from, and it was originally sold as a tonic (feel good drug) but they haven’t had any cocaine in the formula since about 1929.
