I’ve just started taking Cymbalta and am having some crazy side effects?

I stopped taking Lexapro about 3 years ago and have been off anti-depressants since. I went to my doctor to get back on the wagon and she suggested I take Cymbalta. I started four days ago on 20mg doses. I’ve noticed that a lot of people on Yahoo Answers are saying they’ve been tired and mopey, but I’m the exact opposite. I feel extremely hyperactive and shaky. If anyone has ever taken ecstacy or cocaine, it’s that kind of hyperactivity without the mind altering (I’m a recovering addict).I’ve been having somewhat shitty sleep, but that’s to be expected. My appetite is nonexistant. I’ve had half a bowl of rice today and it’s 8:30PM. Sex has been the last thing on my mind, and as a 25 year old, that’s kind of depressing in itself. In fact, that’s why I stopped taking Lexapro. Also, to those who have diarrhea, it’s perfectly normal and it will go away. Take your meds with starchy foods. I’m just curious if anyone else has had these symptoms and how long they lasted. Thank you
No, I’m definitely not bipolar. I’ve been in treatment with bipolar patients and we have very different depression issues. I’m more of a rage-aholic. I dont get manic, but more short-tempered about stupid things. I’ve been in treatment enough to where if they didn’t catch any bipolarism, then I definitely dont have it.

i would really stop taking that crap. my sister was taking that and she would be doing things like making tea, or getting on the computer in her sleep… cymbolta does not calm your muscles and brain activity.. it just knocks you out.

Is it possible that you are bipolar?

These symptoms sound like hypomania, which can often be triggered by antidepressants.

Call your doctor and/or pharmacist immediately.

You can also check out the literature that came with your meds or look it up online – search “Cymbalta side effects.” BUT talking to a pharmacist is best because they are more expert than doctors.

Also Cymbalta is a fairly new drug & chances are that if there are bad side effects, the medical community may not even know it yet.

Have you heard about the new scandal with Trayslor (sp?). The company that makes it knew it was killing people but did nothing about it for years! Something like 1,000 people a month!

Don’t mess around with this stuff. Get some expert advice from an expert or two and then use common sense. If you know the stuff is no good for you, tell your doctor to switch you to something else.

I’ve been on Cymbalta for a few months now. I started with 30mg and I felt exactly like you have described. I reduced to 20mg and slowly added on in order for my body chemistry to adjust slowly. I have made increases since then and I am currently on 120mg and my negative side effects are gone. Tell your doctor about your problems and request a decrease in the dosage to get used to it better. The reason you feel so hyperactive and jittery is because Cybalta has adrenaline in it. The adrenaline is to help regain energy and drive. The medication also decreases appetite and sexual appetite. Over time, these side affects will go away. Good luck:)
