I don’t know about diabetes, but it will elevate his death risk.

# A 1998 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine determined that cocaine use was a risk factor for diabetic ketoacidosis, either because of its effects on couner-regulatory hormones or because of the individual’s subsequent tendency to omit insulin doses.
# Ecstasy can produce seemingly boundless energy, although the user may not feel the need for rest or food- a situation that can lead to hypoglycemia.
# For people with diabetes, fluctuations in the amount of food eaten or energy expended require frequent blood glucose testing and the ability to make important decisions about insulin and food intake.
# Endocrinologist Stuart Brink points out that James’s story is a good example of how a drug addict who has diabetes differs from someone who is capable of testing blood glucose and managing diabetes while using recreational drugs.
# “Hard drug addicts are much different than those experimenting or occasionally getting stoned,” Brink notes.
# “When you’re an addict, taking care of your diabetes is so far down the priority list.
# The next hit is life or death.
# The [chronic complications of] diabetes don’t hit for another 20 years.”

I would be more concerned about the blood pressure as cocaine definitely raises it–causing the arteries to constrict and the heart to pump faster. Also, long term use of cocaine does damage to internal organs. It is possible to make his type II worse if he hurts his pancreas. For if it kills off the insulin producing cells, he will now have type II (immunity of his cells to his own insulin) and type I (insufficient insulin). I did find an article that says cocaine can raise blood sugar…see link below.

Calm down sweetie( I’m on his side, been there, done that)No ,he’s O.K.Cocaine should have no effects on his sugar levels at all. Iv’e suffered with diabetes for years and “occasionally” doted in a bit of “blow”(for about 30 years) So quit ya worryin, an give him a good kick in the @rse and tell him,” If he ever does it again, you’ll leave him” Good Luck. Didn’t work for my ex.

You know what, if he’s doing coke you have more to worry about than his blood sugars. good luck.

If diabetics do Coke, that will get them high (bg high).

But if they do cocaine, they might just get a lot of energy and have sex. They might have to be wary of a hypo from all that.
